"The Long Decline"

1.        In Mr. French's class, we study all this Roman and Byzantine decline and such, and I realized that one day in the far off future, kids like ourselves are going to be studying this: UNITED STATES: Beginning, Golden Age, and the Long Decline, like it says in our textbooks. Mr. French asked us if we thought the golden age of the United States has passed, now, or if its yet to come. I believe it has already passed, and we are at the beginning of the decline. One of the parts in the Roman decline was that their people lost patriotism, officials were doing anything to become the leaders, and they did not secure their borders. WE ARE DOING THE SAME THING. Look at people our age, most don't even know who is running for president next year, but they know every single contestant on American Idol. I know not many teens even show patriotism. There are kids in my school who don't even stand up to say the pledge! And no one even votes anymore. I love Rock the Vote though, because they are encouraging young voters to actually vote! Teenage boys are worried about if they are going to be sent to war, and they want to flee the country if a second draft happens. I mean, I know this was the same way on the last draft, but still I cannot believe boys would rather flee the country forever than go and fight for their country. AND we are barely securing our borders. Look at all the illegal immigrants from Mexico coming into our country. Last week two girls died because of a drunk illegal alien smashed into them in VA Beach. This has been a wake up call not just for Virginians, but actually for the whole country. I saw this on Good Morning, America! and the O'Reilly Factor. The Romans didn't secure their borders when the Germans were coming into Rome, and then the Germans took over! Do you want that to happen to us? Would you like for Mexicans to take over our country? (However, I'm fine if they acted like everyone else who comes to our country and apply for citizenship and such, but they want it NOW. They don't want to have to wait like everyone else.) Our country is in decline, and we need to stop screwing around and have some good leadership lead us to get us out of it. Like my dad has said, "We need another Reagan."

 

           If you read all of this, I am glad. But if you didn't, it's okay, I didn't expect you too. Like I said, most teens worry about who's going to win American Idol then worry about politics.
